Monitor Your Child's Progress With Confidence

Does your child get enough total calories?

Kids with special needs often have trouble eating enough to grow and function as expected. Even small daily calorie deficits can be detrimental to focus, sleep, behavior, mood, and anxiety level, if they occur routinely. Use this Energy Needs Calculator to estimate your child's daily total calorie need.

Nutrition Care For Children LLC assures the safety and efficacy of special diets

If your child tried a special diet but has not shown expected progress, the diet may have been inadequate or inappropriate. Diets that are inadequate, inappropriate, or ineffective for the therapeutic goals are common in children who use these tools without professional monitoring. For a child, losing as little as 5% of body weight can impair concentration, focus, behavior, sleep, mood, academic effort, hormone levels, brain chemistry, and even language effort. Children with autism will not progress well on special diets that are inadequate or untargeted.

Roughly half of children with Asperger's Syndrome are clinically underweight. Many children with other special needs struggle to eat enough and absorb diets normally. Use the CDC's Body Mass Index (BMI) calculator to quickly screen if your child is underweight. If BMI is 10th percentile for age or less, contact Judy for guidance.
